Ellerton Sprint Triathlon Route Recce
One down, four to go. I’m still revelling in my Great Yorkshire Run achievement, but have now switched focus to my next charity event, the Ellerton Sprint Triathlon on Saturday 6th August.
This is the first tri I have done in a few years, so admittedly I’m a little nervous! But I’m confident that I’ve been training hard and will put in a good performance. To prepare for the race, we visited the location, Ellerton Park to see where the open water swim would take place and what the surrounding roads were like.
The area was really nice and quiet, with a little café that promises the best ‘post-race chip butties.’ Something that will definitely spur me on to reach the finish line! There were people casually walking around in wetsuits, as you are able to practice swimming in the lake. I would say swimming is my Achilles heel in tri’s, although I’ve been hammering lengths in the pool to try and work on my speed. I treat myself to a new wetsuit that I bought from the triathlon shop, Triangle, in Horsforth and am looking forward to taking it for a spin.
The roads are exactly what I wanted, flat and fast. I can really put my weapon to work and chew up some distance on the bike leg, then eat more time into people on the run which is my strongest discipline of the three.
I’m not sure how many people will be taking part, or what standard the calibre will be, but I’m hoping for another good result. I can’t believe how generous my friends, family and clients have been with donations! Seriously, you’re all awesome.
