Ellerton Sprint Triathlon
I was a bit weary going into this event, I had psyched myself out looking at last year's results which were pretty impressive. However, everyone who knows me knows that I like a challenge. I went in with a positive mind set and wanted to prove I could kick it with the big boys.
I was 17th out of the water after a calm and relaxed swim. Although I couldn't say the same for T1. I lost my footing trying to take my wetsuit off and went flying! With only my pride hurting, I set off on the bike and managed to claw up 8 places, coming back 9th into the run.
I had been practising taking my feet out of my shoes and cycling on top of them for the return to T2. It was the first time I had done it in race mode and thought it went well - fall 2 averted. Trying to steady my jelly legs after hammering the bike meant I didn't set off as quickly as I would have liked on the run. Although I soon found my rhythm and overtook a further 2 people!
After a sprint finish, I was dizzy and dotty at the finish line - but super happy to find out I finished 7th overall! This was my first triathlon since 2013 and was aiming for top 20, so this was a welcome surprise.
